Malayalam superstar Mammootty‘s much-awaited investigative thriller ‘CBI: The Brain’ has set its release date in the theatres. The Malayalam film arrives in cinemas worldwide on 1st May, 2022. ‘CBI 5: The Brain’ will see Mammootty return in the beloved avatar of CBI officer Sethurama Iyer, a role he’s made his own since 1988.
‘CBI 5: The Brain’ is the fifth film in the ‘CBI’ franchise of suspense and investigative thrillers. For the uninitiated, Mammootty first essayed the role of Sethurama Iyer in the 1988 Malayalam film, ‘Oru CBI Diary Kurippu’. The film was a massive hit and achieved a cult following. It spawned a franchise that saw 3 more films released, with Mammootty and Sethurama Iyer winning people’s hearts.
The three further films in the ‘CBI’ franchise are Jagratha (1989); Sethurama Iyer CBI (2004); and Nerariyan CBI (2005). Now, after 17 years, ‘CBI 5: The Brain’, a new Sethurama Iyer film with Mammootty is all set to hit the big screen. Along with Mammootty, the film features Sethurama Iyer’s signature walk and the franchise’s theme music, much to fans’ delight.
CBI 5: The Brain is directed by K Madhu. The director has helmed all the previous ‘CBI’ films. ‘CBI 5: The Brain’ also stars Renji Panicker, Sai Kumar, Jagathy Sreekumar, Soubin Shahir, Mukesh, Ramesh Pisharadi, Anoop Menon and Dileesh Pothen in pivotal roles.
