Multiple Mollywood movies with heavy budgets like Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham and The Priest were supposed to release in Kerala by this month as it was assumed that the Kerala Government would allow night shows to finally open after almost a year. But the State Government was unsure and they took their time on deciding this matter, which caused the Mammootty starrer, The Priest to get postponed from its release date of 4th of March. But it seems that the Kerala Government has decided to make some changes and allow night shows, and now the tentative release date for The Priest, which was set for say after tomorrow, has now been confirmed as the official release date by Jofin T. Chacko, the director of the upcoming supernatural thriller.
Although Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham shifted forward its release date by another couple of months (to May) because of the government’s previous indecision, The Priest’s production house only pushed their date by a week, and as luck have it, that was all the Government officials needed to make up their minds. The previous Kerala show timings are from 9 am to 9 pm. After some shuffling, the state government has revised the screening timings to 12 pm to 12 am.
This reshuffling has brought about relief to all theater owners, distributors and movies producers from the Malayalam film industry. A huge chunk of the film’s revenue comes from its night show audience, and now these movies can finally start making some profits for these financially affected parties.
The Priest is coming to theaters the day after tomorrow. It will also be the first multi-starrer Malayalam film to hit the screens, post the pandemic induced lockdown. The first time Mammootty-Manju Warrier collaboration will be a mystery supernatural film about a priest who has come to a town to investigate certain rumors that he had heard about the town.
Mammootty’s The Priest is premiering in theaters, this coming Thursday, on 11th March 2021.
