This is not the first time.
Sounds like Netflix India is back with another atmospheric thriller, Mandala Murders, in collaboration with YRF Entertainment. But before we pop the popcorn, let’s talk expectations… and baggage.
See, this isn’t the first time Netflix has dangled a promising concept in front of us. Remember Sikandar Ka Muqaddar? Or The Railway Men? Or even Jewel Thief? They all carried the weight of ambition. They all had trailers that looked like the next big thing. And yet, each time, we were left with a half-hearted attempt at storytelling, shows that were more about the trailer than the tale.
Now comes Mandala Murders, it looks gorgeous, no doubt. But if history’s any indicator, we’ve learned to tread carefully.
There’s a worrying pattern with Netflix India’s originals. High on theme, low on heart. Sharp aesthetics, dull pacing. Solid casts, underwhelming arcs. It’s become a cycle, one where potential is repeatedly sacrificed at the altar of shallow writing.
That said, there’s always a chance this one could break the streak. Vaani Kapoor stepping out of her comfort zone, and Raghav Juyal taking a sinister turn? That does raise curiosity. But the bar has shifted, from “Will this be great?” to “Can it avoid being forgettable?”
Mandala Murders premieres soon. Let’s hope this time, the story lives up to the setup. But given the recent track record, we’re keeping our expectations in check.
