Grand has indeed got grander! Mani Ratnam’s upcoming cinematic adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel, Ponniyin Selvan: I, is one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2022. The epic period film is less than 50 days away from its grand theatrical release. And the makers are doing everything they can to maintain the project’s hype. Now, Lyca Productions’s latest tweet has confirmed that the forthcoming Mani Ratnam directional will come out in IMAX format as well. It is the first Tamil film to get an IMAX release.

Ratnam originally planned to release Ponniyin Selvan as a standalone project but later split the film into two parts. The helmer tried to adapt Krishnamurthy’s widely acclaimed novel in the early 2010s but failed. However, this setback didn’t break the director’s spirits. He revived the procedure of adapting his “dream project” in 2019.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has previously collaborated with Ratnam in Guru (2007) and Raavanan (2010). The latter was simultaneously released in Hindi as Raavan with Abhishek Bachchan portraying the antagonist.

PS: 1 treasures a huge ensemble cast of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Karthi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, and many more. Legendary composer A. R. Rahman composed the film’s score. Apart from his helming duties, Mani Ratnam wrote the film’s screenplay with Elango Kumaravel. This project has been jointly produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies.
