Manju Warrier‘s recently released techno horror thriller ‘Chathur Mukham’ has had a slow start in the Malayalam Box Office so far. Although the Malayalam Superstar has been getting rave reviews for her brilliant portrayal of a social media addicted woman, the movie isn’t doing so great among the Keralite crowd or critics. If the movie doesn’t pick up soon, then there is a very good chance that ‘Chathur Mukham‘ will release on a major OTT platform later next month.
‘Chathur Mukham’ dropped in Kerala theatres almost two weeks back, on the 8th of April 2021. Although the recent rise in Covid-19 numbers within the state hasn’t been helping nor has the removal of night shows from theatres, the fact remains, this movie is still underperforming at the Kerala Box Office. ‘Chathur Mukham’ is one of the first techno horror movies to come to South India and probably the first one to come to the Malayalam film industry, so this new concept and the rave reviews about actor’s performance should be helping the movie get more promotion among the film going crowd.
However, with the rise in Covid-19 cases and people preferring to stay at home to be safe, the production house will very likely try out their luck on OTT platforms, hoping for a better response. Since night shows have been removed indefinitely and theatres are expected to close by 7:30 pm, it would be the more profitable choice, even if theatre associations will disagree (and with good reason).
No official announcement has been made so far, but there were rumours regarding the movie’s OTT release – which was expected to happen in May. With the way things are progressing, it has become even more likely – but we still have around ten more days to see if the response for the movie will change or if the Covid-19 cases within the state will reduce. So we will have to wait and see.
