Marathi historical war drama film ‘Chhatrapati Tararani’ based on the life of Maratha Queen Tarabai, enters a new league altogether. Akshay Bardapurkar’s Planet Marathi has been instrumental in taking Marathi cinema and its OTT industry to greater heights and is now reaching for the stars with their latest venture. Their latest in collaboration with Piiyush Singh’s Golden Ratio Films, ‘Chhatrapati Tararani’ is now going international and all set to put Marathi cinema on the world map. They will collaborate with UK’s ‘Black Hangar Studios’ and American production house ‘ORWO Studios’ to make this project India’s first Marathi Hollywood film.
‘Chhatrapati Tararani’ is an adaptation of the book ‘Mughal Mardini Maharani Tarabai’, written by historical writer Dr Jaysingrao Pawar. The film stars none other than Sonalee Kulkarni in the lead as Queen Tarabai, who’s all set to enter the historical space again post her 2019 film ‘Hirkani’. The talented actress had earlier released the motion poster of the upcoming film on social media, where her look was praised to the moon. Essaying the role of the first Maratha warrior queen, Kulkarni looked all things fierce and fiery in the poster, sitting on a horse with a sword in hand.
‘Chhatrapati Tararani’ will be helmed by director Rahul Janardan Jadhav (of ‘Murder Mestri’ fame) while the music of the film will be composed by Avadhoot Gupte. The blockbuster in the making will indeed be a one-of-a-kind venture, with a release expected to be planned on a huge scale in India and overseas. ‘Chhatrapati Tararani’ will be the first Marathi movie to be simultaneously released in Marathi and English and the makers have announced a Diwali 2022 release.
