The biggest threat to the legacy of the Comic Book Universe isn’t the ToyVerse—people love toys (not referring to the film Toy Story)—but a hit like Barbie won’t always happen. However, Video Game adaptations will definitely aim to capture the throne.
Firstly, video games have a larger fanbase and their popularity tends to be universal in most cases, unlike toys and dolls, which are often regional with a few exceptions like Barbie.
So, it’s about time we see some Video Game Adaptation Universes (VGA universes). In recent times, there have been some major projects in this same alley, from Netflix’s Witcher to HBO’s The Last Of Us, gaining significant traction as series adaptations.
And when it comes to films, whether it’s Super Mario Bros or Mortal Kombat, you can’t ignore what the masses want. To play it safe, a universe was inevitable.
During an interview, Chris Pratt mentioned that there are major plans to make Super Mario Bros. 2 and it will create something bigger. He teased that there will be more Nintendo games getting the adaptation treatment.
“Oh, man! There’s so much to explore. There are decades worth of [games] to explore, not only with Mario and Peach and Donkey Kong and Luigi and Bowser and Yoshi; that was teased at the end. But it just gets me so excited.”
“I was such a Nintendo fan growing up, so just thinking about how everything from Legend of Zelda to the entire Nintendo cinematic universe could be created and what that could look like for all of these characters that I love? I mean, there’s really no limit. We could talk about it for hours.”
With a gaming console like Nintendo, fans will definitely go crazy over it. Firstly, they were affordable consoles, accessible to a plethora of people, making it easier to advertise the film.
Secondly, it is definitely a classic. If the adaptations include games such as Legend of Zelda or Donkey Kong, it will definitely be effective.
Will it be a success? It definitely will be a major success; fans will love the adaptations. If the studio manages to do it well, we could have something as beautiful as the MCU and DC.
