Academy Award nominee Noah Baumbach and Netflix, are taking their relationship to next level with the signing of an exclusive partnership deal. As part of this deal, Academy Award nominee Baumbach will exclusively write and direct films for Netflix for the next several years. The first film under this deal is the adaptation of ‘White Noise’.
Netflix and Baumbach have earlier collaborated for masterpieces like ‘Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)’ starring Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller and Emma Thompson, and ‘Marriage Story’ starring Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson and Laura Dern.
While ‘Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)’ premiered to rave reviews at the 2017 Cannes International Film Festival, ‘Marriage Story’ garnered six Academy Award nominations, including two for Baumbach, and a win for Dern.
‘White Noise’ is an adaptation of Don DeLillo’s eponymous seminal novel which Baumbach will write, direct and produce for Netflix. Along with Baumbach, David Heyman, who had produced ‘Marriage Story’ with Baumbach, will also serve as producer for ‘White Noise’. The shooting for the film will begin later this year.
Talking about working with Netflix, Noah Baumbach said, “When I started in the film industry I dreamed of having a home. It took me about 25 years but it was worth the wait. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be making movies with Ted and Scott and everyone at Netflix, who are wonderful collaborators and friends and family.”
‘Kicking and Screaming’; ‘The Squid and the Whale’ (Baumbach received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay for this); ‘Margot at the Wedding’, ‘Greenberg’, ‘Frances Ha’, ‘While We’re Young’, ‘Mistress America’, and the documentary ‘De Palma’ are some of the other notable works of Baumbach.
