Two legendary Hollywood filmmakers Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese joining hands for a series is an ideal scenario for cinephiles across the globe, isn’t it? And the once-in-a-blue-moon creative partnership is indeed happening and that too for a super interesting project.
Diehard movie buffs must already be aware that Martin Scorsese directed a psychological thriller movie called ‘Cape Fear’ in 1991. It featured Robert De Niro in the role of a sadistic and calculative criminal, who goes after his lawyer (Nick Nolte) as he thinks the public defender was responsible for his 14-year imprisonment. ‘Cape Fear’ was actually a remake of the 1962 movie of the same name, which in turn was based on a novel called ‘The Executioners’.
Now, a new ‘Cape Fear’ series is reportedly in the works, and it will be executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese along with creator and showrunner Nick Antosca.
The underlying plot of the ‘Cape Fear’ series takes a slightly different route than the films. The show’s story revolves around a married pair of attorneys who become the target of a notorious criminal from their past who is about to be released from imprisonment. The show is being touted as a tense, contemporary thriller that examines America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century. So, the ‘Cape Fear’ series should be a delightful watch for the next gen ‘true crime’ loving streaming audiences.
As of now, it is not confirmed which network or streaming company will the ‘Cape Fear’ series finally land. Whether it’s HBO, Netflix, Apple TV+ or any other network, the show will be an asset for the company. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on that.
