Martin’s Scorsese upcoming project, Killers of the Flower Moon, will have its world premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. The director will present his film at the event after nearly 37 years. His last project that premiered there was After Hours. Additionally, the movie may have a runtime of approximately 4 hours.
The forthcoming Apple TV+ flick, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, will be screened at the Grand Théâtre Lumière on May 20 as part of the 76th edition of the festival.
‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ may become the longest film of Scorsese’s legendary filmmaking career. His longest project to date, in terms of runtime, is The Irishman (3 hours 29 minutes long), streaming on Netflix. Additionally, only a handful of Hollywood flicks have a runtime of over 4 hours, like Ben-Hur (4 hours 32 minutes long) and Gone with the Wind (4 hours 3 minutes long). We can even add Peter Jackson’s LOTR: The Return of the King, whose extended cut was 4 hours and 11 minutes long.
The film will explore the mysterious murders of the members of the Osage tribe in Oklahoma during the 1920s. This scenario commenced a large-scale FBI investigation led by J. Edgar Hoover and Texas Ranger Tom White.
It will be interesting to see how Scorsese’s upcoming project performs. The Irishman was a huge streaming success, watched by more than 26 million accounts globally within the first week of its release on Netflix. So, chances are that ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ may outperform The Irishman, given its hefty budget of $200 million and star-studded cast, consisting of Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladstone, Brendan Fraser, John Lithgow, and many more. The film will release on Apple TV+ on October 6. Stay tuned for more updates.
