Right now, Marvel is in a position where they can afford to experiment more with their content. They have already built a solid fanbase and can capitalize on that. The studio is determined to bring about some changes, which, from a business perspective, make sense but take away some of the fun for viewers.
Disney and Marvel will be making some major changes to their timeline going forward.
For starters, the studio plans to drop titles such as Captain Marvel 3 and Ant-Man 4. While both of them have their entertainment value, they are considered two of the weakest franchises in terms of finances for Marvel.
But that’s not all; for the main course, there’s Eternals 2. For context, Eternals was probably Marvel’s biggest experiment to date, and personally, I’m a fan of the project. However, the film received mixed reviews, creating some internal disputes and Disney won’t be making the film, that can be assured.
Kevin Feige and Bob Iger are also at odds when it comes to their ideas. Feige is determined to continue working on this, but Iger thinks that failure is inevitable.
Marvel is entering an exciting period, and scrapping some titles will benefit the studio. It will help to declutter the crowded universe and result in fewer projects, meaning fans will have fewer films to bombard them with.
