Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. The Iron Man franchise was undoubtedly a starting point for both parties. For one, it marked a new beginning, and for the other, it provided a second chance at life. Four years after the saga’s conclusion in 2023, we can agree that it was a great run.
Featured in 10 films, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) became one of the most crucial pillars of the franchise and emerged as the leader of the group. Besides phenomenal acting, well-crafted writing contributed significantly to the character arc, transforming him from a ‘cocky’ rich hero to a sacrificial figure.
However, his character evokes nostalgia, and with the complexity of human emotions, it’s challenging for fans to let go of certain moments. For a long time, fans have been asking a question: With the Multiverse now in play, will they witness Iron Man again?
Kevin Feige says NO.
“We are going to keep that moment and not touch it again,” Feige asserts. “We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”
This sentiment was mirrored in RDJ’s mood, as after the death scene, he avoided redoing shots and even dialogues.
“We’d already said tearful goodbyes on the last day of shooting. Everybody had moved on emotionally,” states Russo. “We promised him it would be the last time we made him do it—ever.”
“That was a difficult thing for him to do, to come back to pick up that line,” Anthony Russo adds. “When he did come back, we were shooting on a stage directly opposite where he auditioned for Tony Stark. So his last line as Tony Stark was shot literally a couple of hundred feet from his original audition that got him the role.”
