SDCC 2022 is well underway. Marvel has announced plenty of fun and exciting future animated projects. It seems like Marvel will fire big guns during the final moments of the ongoing comic-con. And by big guns, we mean the teaser or trailer of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and updates on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, GOTG Holiday Special, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Fantastic Four.
Marvel’s animation panel announced the following shows:
Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur Series
I Am Groot Series
Marvel’s Disney+ What If…? Season 2 (early 2023)
The Spider-Man: Freshman Year Series (2024)
X-Men ‘97 Series (fall 2023)
Marvel Zombies Series
Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur will focus on a teen super-genius, Lunella Lafayette (aka Moon Girl), and her 10-ton T-Rex, Devil Dinosaur. The duo will be seen protecting the people of New York’s Lower East Side from all sorts of danger. A guaranteed fun watch for children!
The new ‘I Am Groot’ Trailer shows Baby Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) becoming a part of new and thrilling adventures and meeting unique creatures. We will also see some of the creatures tasting the confetti from the leaf that came out of Groot’s… cough cough! You know what we are talking about! Although, it is unclear how much the show will follow MCU’s current timeline. Plus, we have Bradley Cooper as Rocket in this one.
Now, let’s talk about some big shows! How about we start with ‘What If…? Season 2’?
According to the panel, the upcoming season will have a Hela-centric episode. In another episode, we may watch Odin and The Mandarin going one-on-one with each other in an epic fight. Also, Tony Stark may drop a visit to Grandmaster’s Sakaar planet. There, he will encounter Hulk and Valkyrie. This storyline seems like a modified version of Thor: Ragnarok’s plot. We watched the Grandmaster conducting the ‘Contest of Champions’ in that Taika Waititi directional. The God of Thunder summoned his true powers of lightning for the very first time to outmatch Grandmaster’s champion, Hulk. However, the ruler of Sakaar interfered with the contest to aid the latter. However, fans may get a breathtaking race sequence instead of the fighting contest in the upcoming Sakaar episode of Season 2.

Showrunner Bryan Andrews has confirmed that an episode of the second season will feature Captain Carter and Winter Soldier. Additionally, the footage shown at the event revealed the former teaming up with Black Widow and Hydra Stomper Steve Rogers passing through a town filled with robots from the 1960s. Furthermore, a Doctor Strange episode, set in 1602, is also on the list. Stephen Strange will serve as the chief physician of Queen Elizabeth in that one, the time when magic and witchcraft were nothing except stupid superstitions.

Marvel Zombies will feature a ragtag group of superheroes including Shang-Chi, Yelena Belova, Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan (Ms Marvel), Katie (Shang-Chi’s best bud), Red Guardian, and Death Dealer. These individuals will take on the lineup of zombified versions of Wanda Maximoff, Okoye, Clint Barton, Abomination, Ghost, Captain Marvel, and Captain America (with no legs).
Now, here comes the best part!
The Spider-Man: Freshman Year series will explore Peter Parker’s young days as the web-slinger. What makes this show more intriguing than the ones mentioned above is that we have Norman Osborn here. The majority of game-changing events have taken place on Earth-616 in the MCU. And there is no Norman Osborn or Oscorp Industries in this world. Plus, we have Doctor Octopus, Nico Minoru (The Runaways), Tombstone, Scorpion, Rhino, Tarantula, and many more as adversaries of Spidey in the series. The majority of these baddies have not yet appeared in the current timeline of MCU. Also, Marvel has ordered a Spider-Man Sophomore Year series.

Tom Holland will not voice Peter Parker’s character in the show. But Charlie Cox will definitely voice Daredevil in this one.
The panel further disclosed that the X-Men ‘97 series will come out in the fall of 2023. It will serve as the continuation of the events of Fox’s X-Men animated classic (1992-97). This show concluded with Charles Xavier leaving Earth and going into space.

The departure of Professor X completely turns everything upside down. Why? Well, fans of the original series will now see Erik Lehnsherr (aka Magneto) taking the command of X-Men. The latest pictures from the comic con show a fully jacked version of Magneto with a big M on his chest and long swooshy hair. He will lead the superhero team of Wolverine, Storm, Beast, Jean Grey, Rogue, Gambit, Cyclops, and Jubilee.
SDCC 2022 will conclude on July 24. Stay tuned for more updates.
