Marvel’s upcoming anthology animated show ‘What If…?’ is slated to start streaming from 11th August onwards. As the title suggests, the studio’s maiden animated series would delve upon the ‘What If’ scenarios relating to how some of the important events of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) would have happened in a different way.
As per a recent interview with Marvel senior executive Victoria Alonso (via Variety), ‘What If…?’ is certainly not the only animated venture that will be developed by the eminent studio. In fact, it’s just the start of an exciting new division. Alonso revealed that “We’re going to have our animation branch and mini studio, and there will be more to come from that as well. We’re super excited about animation, which is my first love.”
The executive also hinted that eagerly anticipated shows including ‘Ms. Marvel’ and ‘Hawkeye’ will also be released before the end of this year. Besides these two shows, what other shows may be released this year is not confirmed yet. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has already successfully entered Phase-4. It began with the ‘WandaVision’ show and its first film was the recently released movie ‘Black Widow’ starring Scarlett Johansson.
Considering Loki’s climactic episode, there are myriad possibilities for further stories being developed by the studio and many of them could also be in an animated format. Further, regarding the OTT world, Alonso stated that “When the chance of being a part of this streaming world came about, we were beyond excited because all of a sudden we could actually give the fans far more than 1/4 of a page or three cool moves.”
After ‘What If…?’ starts streaming and depending on the response it gets, audiences can hope to expect some good news regarding more series or film story ideas that Marvel intends to implement in an animated format under teh ambit of its ‘Mini Studio’ venture.
