Marvel just struck its fans with a bolt from the blue! The blockbuster production house dropped an ultra-short teaser for its next hotly anticipated show, ‘Moon Knight‘. Not just that, the studio also revealed that the first full trailer for Moon Knight will drop this Monday, during the NFL Super Wild Card playoffs in the run-up to the upcoming Super Bowl 56. As for the release date of Moon Knight, though there’s no official news from Marvel regarding the info, reliable industry insiders have disclosed that Moon Knight will premiere on Disney Plus on March 30, 2022.
Interestingly, the teaser for Moon Knight was launched on the social media handles of Hulu, the mature content streaming arm of family entertainer Disney. This has led fans to speculate that maybe Moon Knight will land on Hulu, and will be darker and more violent than standard Marvel fare. In our opinion, that is not to be. Moon Knight will arrive only on Disney+, and on Disney+ Hotstar in India.
The teaser for Moon Knight gives us our first clear glimpse of Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector, and a fleeting glimpse of his superhero alter ego, Moon Knight. We also get a look at Ethan Hawke as the primary antagonist of Moon Knight. There’s still no official information on which villain from the Moon Knight universe will Ethan Hawke essay in Moon Knight, the Marvel-Disney Plus series. Moon Knight’s arch-nemesis in the comic books is Raoul Bushman, and it is speculated that Ethan Hawke will be playing Bushman in the Moon Knight Marvel and Disney Plus series.
We also get a glimpse of the Egyptian Pyramids, given that part of the series is set in the backdrop of Egypt. For those who don’t know, Moon Knight is the superhero alter ego of wealthy entrepreneur Marc Spector. He is a master of taking on multiple identities, is a former US Marine, a former mercenary, and uses his considerable wealth to fight crime. He derives his powers from the Egyptian Moon God Khonshu. His origin story is one of the most interesting ones in the Marvel Comics Universe. Marc Spector becomes Moon Knight when he is dying, and the Egyptian God ‘Khonshu’ shows up at that exact time and gives him a second chance at life, along with superhuman abilities. Incidentally, he also suffers from ‘Dissociative Identity Disorder’.
The official logline for the Moon Knight series states:
“A new globetrotting action-adventure series featuring a complex vigilante who suffers from dissociative identity disorder. The multiple identities who live inside him find themselves thrust into a deadly war of the gods against the backdrop of modern and ancient Egypt.”
May Calamawy (Ramy) is playing the female lead of the show. Moon Knight will mark Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke’s debut in the world of films made on comic book characters, and consequently, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed Diab is the showrunner, while directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have directed multiple episodes of Season 1 of Moon Knight.
Moon Knight is likely to premiere on Disney Plus and Disney Plus Hotstar on 30th March, 2022. Stay tuned to Binged.com for further updates on Moon Knight, its trailer and release date.
