Marvel has started the year 2024 with a bang, thanks to its upcoming Disney+ series, Echo, a Hawkeye spinoff based on Maya Lopez (played by Alaqua Cox). All five episodes will arrive on the Disney+ Hotstar on January 10 for Indian viewers. Some lucky critics got the opportunity to watch the first three episodes of the show some time ago. Now that the review embargo is no longer active, they can share their reactions about the show.
Echo has received mostly positive reviews, with special praise directed towards the performances of Vincent D’Onofrio and Alaqua Cox, fight sequences, violence, and the series’ overall tone and atmosphere. The show takes place after the events of Hawkeye (2021). We will see Maya Lopez trying to save herself from Wilson Fisk and his men. Along the way, she returns to her hometown in Oklahoma and tries to reconnect with her past.
Check out some of the early reactions to Marvel’s Echo Disney+ series!
Rob Keyes from Screen Rant:
Watched the first three episodes of Marvel's Echo. It does some unexpected things but I'm not sold yet until I see the whole 5-ep season. Seeing Wilson Fisk and Daredevil back is just awesome and the series mostly fits the old Daredevil universe. I'm happy it's a binge drop.

Molly Freeman from Screen Rant:
Marvel's #Echo starts off slow—most of the first episode is essentially a prologue—but it quickly improves from there. With breathless fight scenes and a stunningly unique voice, Echo is one of Marvel's best Disney+ offerings in a long time. Full review tomorrow on @screenrant pic.twitter.com/URyXwPt0jw

#Echo drops on @DisneyPlus tomorrow, and the first episode delivers a tragic backstory while delivering justice to the character. Alaqua Cox is great & the atmospheric Episode 1 exceeds expectations. Very interesting sound design, as well. pic.twitter.com/i4xfZLhQJx

The Hollywood Handle:
#Echo is the MCU like you’ve never seen before. It’s bloody, action-packed, and frightening. Alaqua Cox is so admirably talented that is impossible not to enjoy. Some plot moments could’ve been better developed but this show is honestly a true winner.

Anthony Galiardi from The Movie Podcast:
#Echo is BRUTAL, UNFLINCHING & RELENTLESS. Alaqua Cox & Vincent D’Onofrio bring a level of RAWNESS and DEPTH to the MCU not seen since the Daredevil series. Its storytelling is intricate and captivating, while the action is rich & ruthless, making it the first must-watch of 2024. pic.twitter.com/lsfx43e7Gu

Tessa Smith from Rotten Tomatoes:
I've seen the first 3 episodes of Echo & the story has me intrigued. I LOVE Kingpin so I could always use more of him, which I feel like is coming with the final 2 eps. Always thrilling to see Daredevil on screen. Great action sequences! Excited to see it all come together. #Echo pic.twitter.com/ZnsWIy74Ro
