No one knew what would happen to the characters of Marvel’s Defenders universe when Netflix pulled the plug on Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and other Marvel shows. Though, many fans speculated about the arrival of ‘The Defenders’ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through Disney+ entries. So far, we have witnessed the returns of Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio), and Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil (Charlie Cox), in the Hawkeye and She-Hulk series, respectively. Jon Bernthal will also return to the MCU via Daredevil: Born Again as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher. Now, one of the actors from Netflix’s Jessica Jones series has talked about his possible MCU return, David Tennant, best known for playing Kilgrave.
In his recent interview with ComicBook, Tennant discussed Prime Video’s Good Omens Season 2 in detail. When asked about the return of Kilgrave to the MCU, the actor responded, “From your mouth to Kevin Feige’s ear.” After the interviewer declared that they were putting the idea out into the universe, the Scottish actor added, “Yeah, yeah, yeah. Great. Very good.”
Kilgrave is one of the best but also one of the most underrated characters in the long history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is a man from Jessica Jones’ past who can control people’s minds. One of the show’s executive producers, Jeph Loeb, has described the character as “a terrible man who doesn’t see himself as terrible”.
Fans have often complained about the lack of entertaining and compelling villains in the MCU. Only Loki, Killmonger, Thanos, and Wilson Fisk have earned the respect of the fans. The addition of Kilgrave could strengthen the franchise’s villain arsenal.
Fans have also demanded the return of Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones in the MCU. The actor appeared on Michael Rosenbaum’s ‘Inside of You’ podcast some time ago, revealing that she has not heard about plans to bring back Jessica Jones. “I think that people love Jessica; I know because I live it. Marvel is so secretive — I am just putting that out there that, of course, I would be there in a second. I would have my boots and jacket ready to rock.”
Debuting in 2015, Jessica Jones is one of the most popular Netflix shows ever. The gigantic success of Season 1 gave birth to two additional seasons, along with a crossover of the protagonist with the likes of Iron First, Luke Cage, and Daredevil in ‘The Defenders’ series. Stay tuned for more updates.
