A few weeks back, Disney+ Hotstar announced that their upcoming limited web series ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ will be coming to the Indian streaming platform in four languages. Now again, Disney+ Hotstar will release their next limited web series on the God of Mischief, ‘Loki’ in the same four languages (which includes three Indian languages) – English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Originally slated for a May release, the series will now premiere in multiple languages in July 2021. This announcement will not be coming as a surprise for many, seeing as OTT giants like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and of course Disney+ Hotstar were all planning to create regional Indian content and are in the process of spending more for their original Indian content than the rest of the Indian OTT platforms combined. So when compared to that, the regional language dubbing of a popular superhero 6-episode limited series is not just, not that surprising, but is also, almost expected.
‘Loki’ will be the third project under the Phase 4 of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which will also be the third web series by Marvel when the series drops on the OTT platform. This will be the first time we will see a stand-alone project based on our “favourite villain” – Loki, and we can’t wait for the television series to drop. The trailer for the series already dropped in December last year, and it looks exciting.
The series is supposed to pick up where we left off in the Avengers: Endgame, when Loki disappears with the Tesseract AKA The Space Stone. Since taking a stone away from a certain timeline and not returning it back would create an alternate turn within said timeline, we expect the stone to return to the right timeline at some point within the series, so as to maintain continuity (we think). It will be interesting to see if Loki will be the one returning the Tesseract and if he does, will he meet Captain Steve Rogers during his “time travelling”?
