Looks like the film based on Marvel’s tragically flawed anti-hero Morbius is delayed again. This time, it’s only for a week though but still Morbius fans won’t be very happy about it as the film is being delayed for a long time now.
Though it is a bit sad but not that surprising as Sony Pictures chief Tony Vinciquerra already said during a conference in September concerning Morbius that they won’t make a mistake of putting a very expensive $200 million movie out in the market unless they’re absolutely sure that theaters are open and operating at significant capacity. He further added, “You’ll see a lot of strange things happen over the next six months in how films are released, how they’re scheduled, how they’re marketed.”
As we all know, when Morbius was announced, fans all over the world started rooting for it as it’s an extremely well known character and moreover, anticipating, it will be a far darker approach from Marvel as the character is an anti-hero. Morbius, the living vampire is Dr. Michael Morbius who developed vampiric superhuman abilities and physical traits after a biochemical experiment went wrong which was originally intended to cure his rare blood disease. Academy award winner Jared Leto will portray the titular antihero.
Originally scheduled for July 10th, 2020, Morbius got repeatedly delayed due to pandemic and after several changes from July 31st, ’20 to 19th March, ’21 to 21st January, 2022, now it’s finally scheduled for 28th January, 2022 and we really hope that it does get delayed further.
Morbius is directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Apart from Leto, the film will feature Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal , Tyrese Gibson and Michael Keaton’s Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming. Morbius is intended to be the third film in the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters after the films associated with Spider-Man and Venom.
To update the fans further, Venom: Let There Be Carnage is set to release on 24th September whereas Spider-Man: No Way Home, has aimed to release on 17th December, 2021 if everything goes as per schedule.
