All eyes were set on Prime Video’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith ” reboot since Phoebe Waller Bridge departed from the show citing creative differences with the male lead Donald Glover. And now the wait is over. Donald Glover has found his new co-lead for the Mr. & Mrs. Smith reboot in Maya Erskine, star and co-creator of “PEN15” .
A reboot of New Regency’s 2005 action comedy flick “Mr. & Mrs. Smith ” directed by Doug Liman that starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the movie follows a married couple fallen out of love learning that they are both assassins hired to kill each other by rival agencies.
Donald Glover confirmed the casting news in an interview for a magazine just yesterday.
“It’s exciting. I really love the show. I’m writing the finale now.” said Glover. He also added about Waller-Bridge’s creative differences-led exit from the show.
Besides starring, Glover also is involved in the project as a co-creator and exec producer under his deal with Amazon Studios. Francesca Sloane joins him as a co-creator, executive producer and showrunner as well. . New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer are also executive producing this project. We can’t wait for the show to officially go on floors and then hit our screens. It’s been a while since we had this 2000s killer-couple trope in films.
