MCU’s The Fantastic Four’s New Costumes Are Way Better Than Anticipated

MCU’s The Fantastic Four’s New Costumes Are Way Better Than Anticipated

Marvel Studios has unveiled the first official costumes for the titular superhero faction in Matt Shakman’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps. All the F4 live-action feature adaptations that have received a wide-scale theatrical release have failed to do justice to the comic books, including failing to make the costumes comic-accurate. But it seems like Shakman and his creative team are committed to giving Marvel’s First Family the respect it actually deserves. One of the very first steps Shakman’s team has taken to make the movie more comic-accurate is making the costumes of the superhero team blue and white.

A promotional video featuring the lead actors of The Fantastic Four: First Steps was shown at the recently concluded D23 event, showing Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm donning the classic blue and white costume with a retro-styled F4 logo on his chest. Check it out right here!

The above suit bears a striking resemblance to the iconic blue and white costumes from the 1980s Fantastic Four comics by John Byrne. Still, the new suit looks refreshing and significantly different from the ones we have seen in Tim Story’s Fantastic Four movies and that 2015 Josh Trank’s piece of crap. Story’s costumes were passable, but Trank’s were a total eyesore. They should be burned and their ashes scattered to the wind.

The overall response to the new costumes has been largely positive, with fans appreciating the direction Shakman has chosen for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Although, these new costumes are still not the most comic-accurate ones.

A prominent German filmmaker Bernd Eichinger from Constantin Film bought the rights to the Fantastic Four from Marvel Comics in 1986. To keep those rights, he hired Roger Corman to make a low-budget film for only $1 million in 1992. But the film never saw the face of the theatres despite receiving a theatrical trailer and even international promotional campaigns. It never got a theatrical or a home video release, though many people have watched the film via its bootleg copies. Even though the movie was never released, it featured the Fantastic Four fighting Doctor Doom in blue and white suits. Surprisingly, these suits are still the most comic-accurate Fantastic Four costumes ever made.

The newly revealed costumes from The Fantastic Four: First Steps prove that Matt Shakman’s take on Marvel’s First Family will be more enthusiastic, optimistic, and light-hearted than previous live-action feature adaptations. It is slated for a theatrical release on July 25, 2025. Stay tuned for more updates.
