The new Mean Girls reboot movie has attracted a lot of attention from fans of the original 2004 Mean Girls movie. Released in the US on 12th January, 2024, Mean Girls proved to be a hit at the box office. Critically however, the reboot received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, with unanimous praise for the outstanding cast.
Indian fans of the original Mean Girls movie did not get a chance to enjoy the reboot movie on the big screen. But now they can watch Mean Girls on their screens in the comfort of their homes. Mean Girls is now available to stream on Indian OTT, albeit on rent. The movie is available to rent on the Prime Video Rental Store, for a one-time rent of ₹389.
Mean Girls follows new student Cady Heron, who finds a place in the elite group of popular girls at school called the Plastics, ruled by the conniving queen bee Regina George. However, when Cady makes the major misstep of falling for Regina’s ex-boyfriend, she soon finds herself caught in their crosshairs.
Angourie Rice plays Cody in Mean Girls, while Reneé Rapp stars as Regina. Auliʻi Carvalho, Jaquel Spivey, Avantika Vandanapu, Bebe Wood, Christopher Britney, Jenna Fischer, Busy Philipps, among others, form the rest of the cast. Tina Fey and Tim Meadows reprise their roles from the original Mean Girls film.
The movie is directed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr., while the screenplay is written by Tina Fey, also the writer of the original stage musical and the 2004 film, both of the same name. The play and the movies are based on Rosalind Wiseman’s 2002 book, Queen Bees and Wannabes.
