We watched Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, appearing in the recently premiered Disney+ series, Echo. While exploring Maya Lopez’s new powers, the show also focused significantly on the complicated father-daughter-like relationship between the protagonist and Kingpin. Echo producer, Richie Palmer, has already expressed his interest in seeing Kingpin becoming a recurring villain in the MCU. And it seems like his wish may come true, considering the character’s global popularity and substantial appeal among Marvel fans. If that happens, Kingpin will surely become MCU’s next big baddie after Thanos.
Let’s be honest, guys! Thanos is still the best villain in the MCU. Marvel went the extra mile to establish Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror as the next big deal after Thanos. Despite Majors’ impressive acting skills, fans never found Kang as compelling as Thanos. Marvel ditched all Kang-related plans after Majors was found guilty of assaulting and harassing his former girlfriend, forcing the studio to fire the actor.
Considering the present state of the MCU, Kingpin is the only worthy villain who deserves to be Thanos’ successor. He may seem like a crime lord from NYC, but he actually shares plenty of similarities with the Mad Titan. For instance, both characters want to build a better world. Thanos tried doing that by snapping half of the universe’s living beings into dirt. He wanted to bestow a better life to the remaining population. On the other hand, Fisk wanted to restructure Hell’s Kitchen in order to make it crime-free. Their intentions might have seemed good at first, but their methods of fulfilling those intentions were corrupt and evil.
In addition, both Thanos and Kingpin are known for their strong, intimidating, yet charismatic personas. Despite all the horrible deeds they have performed, there is something about both of them that makes them instantly likable. They know how to stay true to their words and get things done when needed.
Thanos has been done and dusted. Now, it is Kingpin’s time to shine in the MCU. Given the nature of his roles in the Disney+ shows such as Hawkeye, Echo, and the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, it seems like Marvel is building Kingpin as the next big villain in the MCU. Stay tuned for more updates.
