Just a few days back, we had made our readers aware of eminent Hollywood actor Mel Gibson starring in an action thriller film ‘Hot Seat’. In yet another exciting development, Mel Gibson is reportedly (via Deadline) the first actor to be roped in for the much-anticipated three-part miniseries ‘The Continental’.
The series would serve as a prequel to the Keanu Reeves’ starrer neo-noir and explosive ‘John Wick’ film series. Mel Gibson will play a character called Cormac in the series. Although other details about his character are currently not known.
To be directed by Albert Hughes, ‘The Continental’ would revolve around the origin story of the titular chain of hotels that featured in the ‘John Wick’ universe. The hotel serves as a neutral ground for assassins and hitmen and a safe haven for the world’s most dangerous criminals. The series would be narrated from the perspective of the enigmatic owner of the hotel Winton Scott, a role that was originally played by Ian McShane in ‘John Wick’ films.
However, since the series is set in 1970s New York city and would feature a younger version of Winston and his attempt to seize control of the hotel, Ian MacShane won’t be the lead actor. The actor who will essay Winston’s role is not yet confirmed. ‘The Continental’ would comprise three episodes with a runtime of 90 minutes each.
It would be interesting to see the supremely talented actor Mel Gibson as a part of a premium project like ‘The Continental’. Mel Gibson first shot to fame by starring in the Mad Max film trilogy and further gained recognition in the well-received ‘Lethal Weapon’ film series.
Subsequently, Mel Gibson directed the multiple Oscar-winning historical epic film ‘Braveheart’ in which he also played the lead role. His directorial projects were the controversial film ‘Passion of the Christ’, the action-adventure film ‘Apocalypto’, and the more recent World War II drama ‘Hacksaw Ridge’.
