With only two days remaining, the promos behind the first-ever Malayalam film, ‘Minnal Murali‘, have started to pile up… just as predicted. The film’s lead actor, Tovino Thomas and its director, Basil Joseph have been appearing in various interviews (one even including Priyanka Chopra), while Netflix India has amped up its promotions by releasing a few funny bits (one including ex-WWE superstar, The Great Khali) on their official YouTube channel – all these promos helping the film immensely. However, one promo released almost half a day ago will excite Malayali film lovers (even more) – the lyrical video for song number 7, ‘Niranju Thaarakangal’ has dropped. The best part is that it is sung by the legendary Malayalam singer-composer, M. G. Sreekumar.
For those of you who do not know, Malabar Gopalan Nair Sreekumar, or more popularly, M. G. Sreekumar, sometimes just Sreekumar, is a South Indian playback singer, composer and music producer, who primarily works in Malayalam cinema. He has sung over 35,000 songs in over 15 languages including Malayalam, Hindi, Sanskrit, Tamil and Telugu. He has won multiple awards for his work which include two National Film Awards, three Kerala State Film Awards and five Filmfare Awards South. The singer ruled the Malayalam industry through songs during the 90s and early 2000s. So having a singer like him grace this track is a blessing indeed.
As mentioned earlier, this is song number 7. The other ‘Minnal Murali’ lyrical songs that dropped on social media were as follows – ‘Thee Minnal’, ‘Uyire’, ‘Kugramame’, ‘Edukka Kashayi’, ‘Aaromal’ and ‘Ravil’. Each song is unique in style and emotion and ‘Niranju Thaarakangal’ is no different. It is an upbeat Christmas song that will either be featured during the festival that was shown in the film trailer or as an end-credit song. We have will to wait for the film to drop. Check out the lyrical video for ‘Niranju Thaarakangal’ at the end of this article.
‘Minnal Murali’ will be premiering on Netflix in two days, on 24th December 2021.
