Amazon has roped in Michael Bay as director and producer for its upcoming untitled bounty hunter drama series. British writer Joe Barton will serve as the show’s creator and writer. He is well-known for creating Netflix’s The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself and BBC’s Giri/Haji. As for his feature work, Barton has written the latest Cloverfield film for Paramount Pictures.
Prime Video’s forthcoming show focuses on an American bounty hunter who looks to chase down a man and finish him. However, the latter’s actions land them both in trouble with a deadly Mexican cartel.
Bay spilled some beans about the show’s origins in a recent interview, “I was inspired about 5 years ago hanging out down in Costa Rica, with a former US Federal Agent, who surfs every day, living the good life. He supports his fun, relaxed lifestyle in Costa Rica by tracking down ‘Bad Gringos’ hiding out down in South America.”
The upcoming show is Bay’s first-ever directional project for television. He is widely known for his proficient technical direction in big-budget Hollywood action flicks. Not many directors can film fast-paced and exhilarating action sequences like Bay does. However, he sacrifices his projects’ plot, characters arcs, themes, emotional weight, and many more elements in return. Expecting a cinematic masterpiece from Bay is like expecting Martin Scorsese to declare Marvel films “true cinema” in future.
Barton will also serve as an executive producer along with Bay and Brad Fuller. “I couldn’t be more excited to be partnering with Michael Bay and Amazon to bring this thrilling and action-filled show to the screen,” Barton said.
Despite mostly receiving scathing reviews, Bay has helmed big box office hits like The Rock, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, the first two Bad Boys films, and the Transformers series. His last project, Ambulance, had Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the cast. Prime Video is yet to announce a release date for Bay’s upcoming project. Stay tuned for more updates.
