There is this really interesting tradition in the West where comics and cinema work in close harmony. We have all these Marvel and DC films that were once limited to comics. In India too, there are tons of comic characters that we have been loving for decades. Chacha Chaudhary, Cheetu Neetu, Nagraj and whatnot. But, we never really bothered to make films on them. Let’s be realistic, India’s animation industry didn’t allow us to actually explore making such films.
But, something interesting is happening.
You know Rana Daggubati, the popular actor from Rana Naidu and Baahubali?
Well, he’s teaming up with Tinkle Comics to make something super cool: a comic book about Minnal Murali, the lightning-powered hero from the popular Malayalam movie!
You recognised it well. Minnal Murali happens to be a highly celebrated Desi superhero who came into existence in 2021. On a modest budget, they did everything right. The origin story was cool, they didn’t try to copy the West and the visuals were just astounding.
In case you haven’t seen it, “Minnal Murali” is about a regular guy who becomes a superhero after getting hit by lightning. It became a big hit on Netflix.
Now, Minnal Murali’s story is getting even bigger with this comic book. It’s not just a retelling of the movie; it’s a whole new adventure that dives into his backstory and takes him on new journeys, all in colourful comic book pages!
This collaboration between Spirit Media and Tinkle Comics is a big deal. Tinkle Comics, known for characters like Suppandi and Shikari Shambu, is trying out comic books for the first time with Minnal Murali.
Rarely have we seen Indian movies getting into the pages of books. The Rise Of Sivagami is a good example of a novel that followed after the mammoth success of Baahubali.
Let’s see what kind of magic Minnal Murali does.
