Just a few minutes ago, we informed our readers about how Netflix India and Yash Raj Films got a clearance with Maharaj. Just after the poster of the film, certain groups felt offended that Maharaj would offend their religious sentiments. The makers did not release any teaser or trailer. In fact, we did not get anything apart from a poster and a release date.
Still, some people were so offended that they took the matter to court and the film was slapped with a stay order. The makers challenged the stay order and the court decided to watch the film themselves before they could give any clearance order.
Justice Sangeeta K Vishen of the Gujarat High Court gave a clearance order to the film that was supposedly hurting the religious sentiments of the Vaishnava sect of the Sanatan Dharma.
In our article where we talked about the clearance order, we didn’t realize that Netflix India and Yash Raj Films would not even wait minutes to release the film.
So yes, Maharaj starring Junaid Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat is now streaming on Netflix India without any teaser, trailer or promotional campaign whatsoever. Perhaps everything that the makers needed was done by the Right Wing organizations, the court and the media who covered the entire legal row. People are highly aware of the film even without any campaign and what better day than Friday?
Let’s see if Maharaj offends some people.
