Mirzapur fame Isha Talwar, who played the pivotal role of Madhuri Yadav in the subsequent seasons of the series, is marking her entry in the Odia film industry with the courtroom drama Durga. The trailer of the film was released last night which shows the film to be a courtroom drama surrounding the issues of marital rapes. The release date of the film has not yet been announced.
The film revolves around a woman named Durga who is sentenced to life imprisonment. Isha plays the role of a lawyer turned housewife who finds the case to be unclear and something is missing. She decides to investigate the case herself and fights the case for Durga. The film goes on to delve deep into matters that concern married women in contemporary society. Domestic violence, marital rapes etc. being some of them. The film also discusses how marital rapes have yet not been recognised as offence under the Indian Penal Code. Isha herself is shown as a victim of such atrocity.
Along with Isha, the film contains a powerful cast to serve the film’s purpose. Poonam Mishra, Abhishek Giri, Raj Rajesh, Saroj Parida, Hariharan Mohapatra and Sakti Baral are noticeable in the trailer. Though Isha is part of the cast, her dialogues have been dubbed by another artist as has been the culture with Odia movies before. Actors like Jackie Shroff, Shakti Kapoor and Mithun have acted in Odia films but have been dubbed by other artists. The performance of the actors seems to be spectacular. Isha, though is being dubbed, still her character creates the necessary impact, the voice artist too did an amazing job dubbing her voice.
The film will be released in a few days, considering the trailer has been launched. The expected date can be somewhat around the time of Diwali. The film due to its cast and the theme it delves upon, has a potential to run on a national level. This will surely push the Odia cinema ahead.
