“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” fell short of its box office expectations this weekend, despite receiving critical acclaim. The highly anticipated film collected $56.2 million domestically between Friday and Sunday. With a budget close to $300 million, the movie aimed to set a franchise record but landed behind its predecessors, “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” and even “Mission: Impossible II which came in 2000.
Although “Dead Reckoning Part One” opened on Wednesday, it generated an estimated $80 million in its first five days, surpassing the initial numbers of previous installments during the same period. Boasting a remarkable 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an “A” CinemaScore, the film is expected to remain strong throughout the summer.
However, Disney’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” had a similar $300 million budget. It collected $60 million over the weekend and $84 million during the five-day Fourth of July holiday frame.
This can be a direct effect of Barbenheimer. Tom Cruise was anyways disappointed after the fact that Barbenheimer will snatch screens from them. Well, it is looking pretty obvious.
Mission Impossible 7 had all the ingredients of a typical Tom Cruise action film but its box office collection is not as stellar as it should have been. People might be saving some money for Barbie or Oppenheimer and the sufferer in this is Mission Impossible 7.
