‘Mission: Impossible 7’ Makes A Stunning Debut On Letterboxd Top 50

The seventh instalment of the highly lucrative film series titled ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’ was released in Indian theatres yesterday. The spy actioner starring Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise has been receiving fantastic reviews from critics across the globe.

MI-7 is off to a superb start, and in a short time, it has achieved another milestone now. The sure shot blockbuster has cracked the coveted international list of the top 50 movies on Auckland-based movies-centric social platform Letterboxd (from the year 2023) and currently holds Rank 9 on the coveted list.

And in doing that, the latest ‘Mission Impossible’ movie has outranked Martin Scorsese’s ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ (Rank 17) and Wes Anderson’s star-studded venture ‘Asteroid City’ (Rank 46), amongst other international films.

In MI-7, Tom Cruise reprises his role as the daredevil agent Ethan Hunt, who teams up with other IMF agents for their most dangerous mission yet while dealing with his own past demons. The globe-trotting mission is to prevent a deadly new weapon from falling into the wrong and powerful hands. Interestingly, the film’s villain is Artificial Intelligence.

The Letterboxd top 50 narrative films list 2023 has been topped by the animated superhero flick ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ (Rank 1), followed by the romantic drama movie ‘Past Lives’ (Rank 2), James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3’ (Rank 3) and Keanu Reeves’ action extravaganza ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ (Rank 6), etc.

Coming back to ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’, Not many people might be aware that Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission Impossible’ film franchise is based on a television series of the same name. The series, created by Bruce Geller, revolved around a team of secret American government agents called Impossible Missions Force (IMF). The series spanned two seasons comprising 35 episodes that were aired between 1988 to 1990.

The first ‘Mission Impossible’ movie takes place six years after the events of the television series. The phenomenally successful film franchise spanning six films had grossed a whopping $3.5 billion at the box office worldwide. And now, it is certain that ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’ will take the franchise to another level.
