Paramount’s spy actioner ‘Mission Impossible’ starring Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise is inarguably one of the most high-profile film franchises globally. The highly lucrative film series’ seventh instalment ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’ is set to release in theatres on 14th July 2023. And the franchise finale ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two’ is slated to release on 28th June 2024.
The first ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie helmed by Brian De Palma came out in 1996. The film garnered an instant fan following and the one scene which stood out for the way it was executed was the now-famous ‘vault heist’ scene where Tom Cruise was suspended by a cable held by Jean Reno’s character.
The scene also featured a CIA agent named William Donloe who was poisoned by Ethan Hunt’s team so that they could steal a secret document at Langley. The role was played by Rolf Saxon and the character is set to make a comeback in ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two’. The casting update was revealed by Christopher McQuarrie – the director of the previous two and the next two ‘Mission: Impossible’ films.
After Ethan Hunt steals the secret document right under the nose of CIA analyst William Donloe, his character was immediately fired for the security failure and was given a punishment posting on a remote Alaska substation. So, William Donloe’s return for the final ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie will connect the last movie to the first one in an interesting and nostalgic way.
Not many people might be aware that Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission Impossible’ film franchise is based on a television series of the same name. The series, created by Bruce Geller, revolved around a team of secret American government agents called Impossible Missions Force (IMF). The series spanned two seasons comprising 35 episodes that were aired between 1988 to 1990.
The first ‘Mission Impossible’ movie takes place six years after the events of the television series. The phenomenally successful film franchise spanning six films until now has grossed a whopping $3.5 billion at the box office worldwide. So, fans are naturally super intrigued with what the franchise’s last two films ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’ and ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two’ have to offer.
