After the immense success The sequel for the 2019 film Joker is on the way to its release in about a month from now. The film is named as Joker: Folie à Deux. The film stars Jaoquin Phoenix in the role of Joker, for which he had won an Oscar for the previous film. Lady Gaga will also star in the film in the role of Harley Quinn, the love interest of Joker. The film is in the form of a musical centred around these two characters.
Prior to its release, the film was featured in the 81st Venice International Film Festival in front of media, critics and various other eminent personalities. Now the early reviews of the movie have come out and they don’t seem to be what we could have expected from such a franchise. The film received a meagre IMDB rating of 6.1 out of 10. Rotten Tomatoes score the movie a Fresh piece with just the passing score of 60%. The film received a score of 54 from Metascore too scored the film an average score of 54. The film is lacking far behind in terms of critical reception when compared to its prequel.
People who witnessed the film in the Venice International Film Festival too commented over it. Many of them considered the performances of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga to be really good, but still they fail to elevate such an average film to the heights of its prequel. Some have even praised the film to be “more than what was expected” and especially commenting over the musical form, they considered the film to be of its own merit. Some even acclaimed that the fan base of Joker will be outraged with this film which deviates in a lot of manner from the original one.
Though the film receives mixed reviews from critics, it has been getting a lot of attention owing to the phenomenal past performance of Joaquin Phoenix as Joker and the success of the prequel. The movie is set to be released in the theatres next month and the creators await fingers crossed for the treatment it will receive.
