Mohanlal’s Thriller ‘Alone’ With Shaji Kailas Gets a Release Date!

There has been lots of speculation as to the release date of Mohanlal’s ‘Alone’. Finally putting all of the rumours to rest, the director Shaji Kailas revealed the release date in a recent interview. The film will have its release on Jan 26 next year.

‘Alone’ was initially conceptualised as a direct OTT film. The film’s format seems to be something meant for the digital audience and will revolve around a character named Kalidas (played by Mohanlal), who gets stranded in the pandemic-induced lockdown while he is on the way from Coimbatore to Kerala. However, the film is now expected to come onto theatres before its release on OTT.

The film has much intrigue around it and will show Mohanlal as Kalidas who works for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Interestingly, the title of the film is apt since the star is the only actor who is in the film in person. Since the movie is about the happenings during the pandemic, this setting could bring about a sense of authenticity. That being said, it would also be much more difficult for the makers to make the film engaging and entertaining since the film can easily seep into boredom. However, with the director being hitmaker Shaji Kailas, the movie seems to be in good hands.

Shaji Kailas is having a great 2022. His first outing this year- ‘Kaduva’ starring Prithviraj was a blockbuster grossing around 50 crores worldwide and his second outing this year-‘Kaapa’ also starring Prithviraj is currently doing well in theatres. With films like ‘Aaram Thamburan’ and ‘Narasimham’ having been borne out of the director’s collaborations with Mohanlal, fans are intrigued as to how Kailas will nail this different kind of genre with the star. Prithviraj, Manju Warrier and Siddique are reported to appear in ‘Alone’ in voice roles.

The film will be one of Mohanlal’s smaller releases in the foreseeable future. Besides ‘Alone’ and Netflix anthology ‘Olavum Theeravum’, almost all of his next films are big-budget ventures- Jeethu Joseph’s Ram, Prithviraj’s ‘L2: Empuraan’, Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Malaikottai Valiban’ and Lal’s own directorial ‘Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure. Hopes are on the film to give a much-needed respite to Mohanlal’s dry spell at the box office in recent times.
