Vasan Bala’s ‘Monica O My Darling’ is all set to release on Netflix on the 11th of November. It has Rajkumar Rao, Hima Qureshi and Radhika Apte as the leads and other actors like Radhika Madaan, Shiva Rindaani in other important roles.
Earlier this year, ‘Darlings’ created a hype and it was accepted by the audience with love. Darlings was directed by Jasmeet K.Reen and it was the first movie from Alia Bhatt’s production house ‘Eternal Sunshines Productions’. Darlings was a tale of domestic violence told with superb humour. The Netflix original was able to deal with the genre of dark comedy very deftly.
Previously, Netflix produced Anurag Basu’s well accepted anthology film ‘Ludo’. Ludo was highly experimental and one of the best things that can happen to dark comedy. It got so much love that Basu himself confirmed about making a sequel very soon.
Netflix has bought the digital rights for many such movies too. Films like ‘Andhadhun’, ‘Peepli Live’, ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’, ‘Delhi Belly’, which are the pathbreaking productions of Indian comedy, are streaming on the platform, easily making it the only go-to place for dark comedy. With so much innovative and original content available, Netflix India is almost unbeatable in this field.
No other platform is doing this great in the genre of dark comedies by producing originals and few platforms even stream them. Netflix India is creating a monopoly here and with almost zero competition, they are bound to reach new heights by experimenting more in the genre.
