The numbers about the views earned by Monica, O My Darling are out. The movie starring Rajkummar Rao, Huma Qureshi, and Radhika Apte in the lead role was greatly appreciated as pulp fiction and even as an ode to the stylized crime thrillers of the 70s.
Even after an overall positive response, Monica, O My Darling failed to garner appreciable views in the debut week. The movie is not even close to what Gangubai Kathiawadi, RRR earned let alone the Netflix original “Darlings”.
If you can see the charts then Monica, O My Darling is in the 8th position with a mere 4,450,000 hours of views.
But where did it go wrong?
We realize that Rajkummar Rao or any other member of the cast doesn’t have the same crowd-pulling ability as Alia Bhatt. So it is understandable that the movie didn’t go close to Darlings but it must have been satisfactory on its own.
The problem lies with marketing. Netflix India failed to convince people how entertaining this movie is. Indeed, they didn’t promote it the way they did Darlings or even Haseen Dillruba.
This is perhaps the reason they failed to do good. We have said multiple times that Netflix is best when it comes to promoting films but they are highly inconsistent with their strategies.
