Mohanlal’s latest release ‘Monster‘, a one-of-a-kind film according to the makers was met with mixed responses. The movie was disappointing to many, who felt the movie’s screenplay and plot, which were marketed as the film’s main assets, were not as good as one had hoped. With the same writer also writing Mammootty’s upcoming cop drama ‘Christopher’, fans are now worried for the actor, whose films have had a brilliant run in 2022, both commercially and critically.
‘Christopher’ is touted to see the megastar as a vigilante cop, with the tagline ‘For him Justice is an Obsession’. Adding to the worries of the fans is the fact that the movie is being directed by veteran B Unnikrishnan. Why? Because his latest outing was Mohanlal’s ‘Aaraattu”. The material from the film and the film, in general, are still fresh fodder for the trollers on social media even months after release. While all this talk is just fans being concerned for their idol, is everything genuinely looking so bad for the film?
Not really.
While B. Unnikrishnan has not been at the top of his game lately, he has given Malayalam cinema one of its best thrillers- ‘Grandmaster’ so he certainly has the skills for providing a blockbuster cop drama. Udaykrishnan too has proved his mettle as a solo writer in ‘Pulimurugan’ and if he can write a script that will use Mammootty’s star power and acting prowess well, the movie is certain to end up a good watch. Considering Mammootty’s recent script choices and track record, the movie has huge hopes around it. The writer and director too desperately need a hit.
Mammooty besides ‘Christopher’ also has Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’ up for theatrical release. ‘Christopher’ as per reports is looking at a January 2023 release.
