Moon Knight Episode 5: Marc Faces Horrors of His Troubled Childhood

By Binged Bureau - Apr 27, 2022 @ 08:04 pm
Moon Knight Episode 5: Marc Faces Horrors of His Troubled Childhood

Mindbending and emotional! The latest episode of Marvel’s Moon Knight series starts with a bang but culminates on a highly emotional note. From wandering different corners of his afterlife asylum to confronting the horrors of his abusive and troubled past, Marc goes through a rollercoaster ride in the fifth episode. Here’s what happened in Moon Knight Episode 5!

SPOILER WARNING!

The fifth episode commences right after the events of the last one. Egyptian goddess Tawaret explains to both Marc and Steven that they are in the afterlife after getting shot by Harrow. And we see both personalities switching back and forth between learning more about his afterlife version from the hippo-headed goddess and having delusional therapy sessions with Dr Harrow. Tawaret also reveals that the “hospital” is present inside a boat sailing through Duat, the Egyptian underworld. The goddess takes out the hearts of both Marc and Steven and measures them on the Scales of Justice. It becomes necessary for them to balance the scales to escape from the afterlife.

Amidst strolling through several memories, Steven discovers troubling details about Marc’s childhood: how he always blamed himself for his brother’s accidental death and how his mother used to maltreat him for that unfortunate accident. However, Steven convinces him that he was not responsible for Roro’s death. He was just a child after all. Plus, Marc didn’t even attend his dead mother’s shiva (funeral) because of his suppressed hatred towards her. On the other hand, Steven also realises that their mother was dead. Furthermore, he finds out that he was nothing more than a creation of Marc’s mind.

Still, all the above-mentioned revelations don’t balance the scales. Soon, various zombie-like souls of Duat start pulling them inside the sands. In a nail-biting altercation, Steven saves Marc but gets pulled down by one of the “zombie souls”, resulting in his tragic demise.

The final moments of Episode 5 indeed generate a lot of questions. Is Steven dead? Or will he return somehow to become an integral part of Marc’s life? How will Marc gain Khonshu’s powers again to defeat Harrow? How will he escape from the Field of Reeds? We have to wait for the finale to find out all our answers.

No doubt that the latest episode in the ongoing Moon Knight series is the best episode so far. Oscar Isaac delivers top-notch performance and displays his insane acting range. Mohamed Diab has done an excellent job at perfectly showing all aspects of Marc’s past life. Apart from establishing a strong emotional connection between the titular character and the viewers, Episode 5 also sets a fantastic platform for the upcoming finale.

Moon Knight Episode 5 is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
