Makers have dispatched the first two episodes of the MCU’s Moon Knight series through the Disney+ streaming service. And both of them wildly exceeded the expectations of the fans. Praise went to the show’s plot, character development, Oscar Isaac’s committed performance, Ethan Hawke’s cold-blooded portrayal of cult leader Arthur Harrow, action sequences, suit designs, and direction. Despite some tonal inconsistencies, it has become one of the most intense and solid entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The first episode, The Goldfish Problem, concentrates more on Steven Grant’s struggles with his sleep routine and inability to control his mind. Fans witness the vulnerable but humane side of Steven in this episode. But when things get out of hand while tackling the jackal creature, he summons Marc’s Moon Knight to deal with the situation. On the other hand, we watched Mr Knight appearing out of nowhere to save Grant from meeting his death. Both Steven and Marc are poles apart from each other in terms of personalities and mannerisms. Their respective characteristics shape their respective alter egos. But one thing becomes quite clear. Moon Knight is more vicious than Mr Knight. And this scenario naturally generates a very important question. Is Moon Knight a hero?
Oscar Isaac shared his thoughts about Moon Knight’s status as a hero in an interview with Ask Marvel:
“I think what he ends up doing is very heroic, which is the story of integration,” Oscar Isaac revealed.
The actor’s co-star, Ethan Hawke, also acknowledges Moon Knight as a hero, “I think he is a hero, but his true superpower is the journey towards being a whole person. Because if any of us can really be our whole self, we can do anything.”
Moon Knight serves as the prime servant of the Egyptian god, Khonshu. And the bearer of this character’s power, Marc Spector, has no other alternative but to follow the deity’s orders. He redeems his life of violence to save the innocent and brings justice by whatever means necessary. But his harsh methods of ensuring justice often put a question mark on his ‘hero’ status in the minds of some fans. Still, he deserved to be hailed as a hero for all the work he does for Khonshu. Additionally, his DID case makes everything interesting for the viewers.
New episodes of Moon Knight drop every Wednesday on the Disney+ streaming platform.
