Known throughout the South China Sea as the “Tiger of Malaya”, fictional pirate Sandokan was created in the late 19th-century by Italian author Emilio Salgari.
Played by prominent names throughout pop culture history like Steve Reeves, Gigi Proietti, Ray Danton, and more, the role of Sandoken in 1976 was the stepping stone for Indian actor Kabir Bedi in becoming a household name not only throughout the country but also across the world.
Continuing the legacy of the colonial-power-fighting pirate, the cult Italian TV series is being rebooted once again! Ed Westwick, famed actor of ‘Gossip Girl’, John Hannah from ‘The Mummy’, and British newcomer Alanah Bloor are all set to join Turkish lead Can Yaman for the project that begins shooting on April 22 outside Rome!
The new ‘Sandokan’ is being described as a grandly exotic epic with a strong environmental angle. Initially, Sandokan, played by Yaman, will go about his usual pirate business without taking sides and leading his motley crew. However, everything changes during a raid when he decides to elope with Marianne, the daughter of a British consul.
This will be followed by pirate hunter Lord James Brooke, played by Westwick, who will be hot on their trail.
With a reboot that promises an exhilarating return to an epic Italian saga, this news has left fans worldwide overjoyed!
