Warner Bros. and New Line have made a deal to go back to the company Middle-Earth and the deal that will allow them to make more movies of the The Lord Of The Rings stories.
One problem for the film series will be the timeline. The story of the Amazon Prime Video series happens in the Second Age which is actually thousands of years before the events of the films. The movie rights will be based on the Third Age. It is a time when the most popular characters have already lived and the most popular events have already happened. It will be quite hard for the makers to develop New engaging stories in a timeline which is already so popular. There can be spin-offs on the legendary characters written by Tolkien like Gandalf, Bilbo and Aragorn.
While it is great news for the fans, that their favorite film series can be back with more stories but milking a near perfect film trilogy only for making more money can prove to be a very bad decision. This strategy has not worked well with many franchises and it is not sure that the films will be successful or even good enough to impress the fans.
During an investor meeting of Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav wanted to assure investors that the company will again try to create franchises and develop more stories out of the already famous characters and stories. In the 2000s, Warner Bros. was doing a great job with Harry Potter, The Lord Of The Rings and many other film series like the Dark Knight movies. Zaslav would like to revive that phase of the company. He had previously stated that he would make a deal with J.K Rowling for more Harry Potter stories.
It may not be a very good idea to make movies based on the The Lord Of The Rings series, when the Amazon series is actually doing well. The Hobbit trilogy was not appreciated by the fans and critics even though it was directed by Peter Jackson, the same director who directed The Lord Of The Rings series. Manipulating emotions of the fans for making money is not commendable. And the project will definitely be a very risky one.
