A few weeks back, the makers of the upcoming 1971 Indo-Pak war film titled ‘Pippa’ had shared the film’s first look featuring its lead actor Ishaan Khattar. It was also announced that the filming had commenced on the same day, that is, on 15th September 2021.
And earlier today, the makers have informed that the film’s cast member Mrunal Thakur has already wrapped up her portions for the film ‘Pippa’ and shared pictures of the ‘Toofaan’ actress – one from the film and another one from Pippa’s film set. Mrunal Thakur will be seen essaying the role of Ishaan Khattar’s younger sister in the upcoming war film.
Helmed by the talented filmmaker Raja Menon, who had previously made films like ‘Airlift’ starring Akshay Kumar and ‘Chef’ featuring Saif Ali Khan, ‘Pippa’ follows the story of 1971 Indo-Pak war veteran Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta (played by Ishaan Khattar) of the 45th Cavalry tank squadron who had fought in the war along with his siblings.
Inspired by Brigadier Mehta’s 2016 book ‘The Burning Chaffees’, the film ‘Pippa’ derives its name from a war tank called PT-76, which was popularly referred to as ‘Pippa’. The film would narrate the events of the historic tank battle namely the ‘Battle of Garibur’ which took place on 20th – 21st November in 1971, that is, 12 days prior to India officially joining the war against Pakistan.
Besides Ishaan Khattar and Mrunal Thakur, ‘Pippa’ also features Priyanshu Painyuli and Soni Razdan playing the roles of the protagonist’s elder brother and mother, respectively. War film ‘Pippa’ is being backed by producers Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP and Siddharth Roy Kapur’s Roy Kapur Films.
