Many may not have known this, but there was a sequel in development to 2011 sleeper hit Salt N’ Pepper, and it is coming to theaters today. Titled ‘Black Coffee’, the romantic comedy sequel will focus on the chef, Babu, rather than the two couples the prequel focused on previously. Asif Ali and Mythili will not be returning to the sequel, but Baburaj, Lal and Shweta Menon will all return for Black Coffee.
Black Coffee will follow the chef Babu from the prequel who is now working in a flat with four young women. His old-school, eccentric and experimental way of cooking frustrates the women, but they are happy when he gives them delicious food. Babu also cooks for the couple from the previously mentioned Salt N’ Pepper – Kalidasan and Maya. But besides this slight change in premise, many critics and reports say that ‘Black Coffee’ is basically the same film as ‘Salt N’ Pepper’, with new characters. For now, we will have to wait and see.
There hasn’t been much else revealed in the movie, except for the semi-cryptic trailer which was released a couple of months ago. But the trailer is quite funny, even though it doesn’t give much of the movie away. We are hoping the jokes we heard in the trailer don’t fall flat in the theaters.
Baburaj, the actor who plays Chef/ Cook Babu in both films has penned the script for the film and directed it as well. Sajeesh Manjeri is producing the movie, James Chris has come one board as the cinematographer and Bijibal is the music director.
Black Coffee is dropping in theaters today, on 19th February 2021. Check out the trailer, down below:
