A gangster drama with a moralistic policeman who wants to serve justice and a ruthless don who wants to get him out of the way. Ah! where have we heard that before? The whole gangster drama is not a new concept in the Indian film industry, and therefore Mum Bhai certainly doesn’t provide something new and unique with this concept.
Mum Bhai is backed by the people who bought us classics such as ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ and ‘Once Upon a time in Mumbai.’ so you can be assured that they know what they are doing and this may well be an opportunity for Alt Balaji to create something decent rather than the downright voyeuristic content that they have propagated on a large scale.
Getting to Mum Bhai the trailer promises to be an action-packed thriller with Angad Bedi playing a trigger-happy cop who wants to clean all the filth of the city and his arch-nemesis intends to destroy him at all costs.
While the trailer took us to some great places, it doesn’t stand out. The addition of cliched dialogues such as “Is gandagi ko saaf karte karte me khud ganda ho gaya.” doesn’t provide you anything fresh. It doesn’t look like it has been made on an extravagant budget.
One of the things that stands out for Mum Bhai is that it has a great cast with the likes of Angad Bedi, Sandeep Dhar and Sikandar Kher playing the lead roles which may be a great thing because the aura of the characters can determine the fate of such a project.
Vivek Oberoi as Maya Bhai and Ajay Devgn as Sultan Mirza are some great examples. Therefore we are really eager to see whether a project such as this can be pulled out without a big budget, extravagant productions or marketing.
Well, I guess this question can only be answered when we watch it. It releases on Alt Balaji this November.
