Since the last few horror movies didn’t work really well at the box office, the audience was very sceptical about the release of Munjya.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, and produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik under Maddock Films.
Munjya is a comedy horror based on an Indian folklore, the story revolves around a young man who visits his village and then unveils the secret about a living spirit Munjya, who wants to get married.
Now the young man has to save himself and his loved ones from the grasp of Munjya.
Because Indian horror took a backseat in the Industry, the crew was very much concerned about how the film is going to work on the silver screen, but to the audience’s surprise, Munjya did a fairly good box office collection.
Munjya crossed the ₹30 crore mark on Wednesday, taking the box office total to ₹31.15 crore.
According to the reports, on the sixth day of its release, it crossed ₹3.75 crore. Munjya opened well at the box office with ₹4 crore on its first day of release.
This is a good news for the the upcoming horror movies like “Stree 2” which will hit the theatres on 15th of August, which is a more bigger and better project .
The last horror movie which was based on Indian folklore, and had a SGIed creature which garnered a fairly great audience reaction was “Tumbaad”, and now “Munjya” revived the tradition once again.
