A good teacher is the one who lightens the pathway for their student. If they get mistaken, the whole generation goes wrong. A lot of movies have given, both meek and spunky kinds of characters for teachers where some are ideal and some become worse. Binged would like to enlist its five favourite Malayalam movies to celebrate Teacher’s Day.
1. ‘Chacko Master’ from Spadikam (1995)
The cruel, inhumane, and wicked headmaster of a local government school, Chacko master believes that everything around the globe is made of mathematics and this subject is the only supreme one. He didn’t even span his son Thomas Chacko, who was interested in becoming a scientist. Instead, his rage set out to become a local hooligan named ‘Aadu Thoma’. The example of however genius might be, but not to become a teacher like this one proves the scenario. The character is played by veteran actor Thilakan who is captivating, brilliant, and subtle throughout the movie. This movie is available to watch on The Amazon Prime Video streaming platform.
2. ‘Antony Vargheese’ from Olympian Antony Adam (1999)
An Indian Police Service officer named Antony Vargheese comes in disguise as a physical education director for a residential school to investigate a particularly sensitive case and capture the awe and support of its students. His interaction with different with children of different natures is engaging and mind-bending. The masterclass performance by actor ‘Mohanlal’ as Olympian Antony Adam is top-notch and versatile. The movie can be watched on the Jio TV+ streaming platform.
3. ‘Vinayachandran’ from Manikyakallu (2011)
There is no one required for the best to make again the best. But what if someone can be an icon to set up the worst situation for the best construction? Vinayachandran, a new person in a village comes as a teacher in a local school where all the students including the staff are lazy and don’t have any commitment to the education system or the future generation. His strategic and sustainable methods of changing this weak setup give rise to hope which teaches a big lesson of persistence and perseverance to the audience is a convincing factor. Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran has emulated the character so efficiently and naturally throughout the movie. Amazon Prime Video is streaming the movie.
4. ‘Mukundan’ from 101 Chodyangal (2013)
A simple yet strong character, Mukundan is an ambitious school teacher who is fond of students who like asking questions apart from seeking answers. The character is played by actor Indrajith Sukumaran who has given total justice and naturality to the role. The basic traits of compassion and trust of a teacher are best sketched for this character. The movie is streaming on the Sun NXT platform.
5. ‘Ravi Padmanabhan’ from Thanner Mathan Dinangal (2019)
The conventional type of cruel or compassionate teachers shown in usual movies was broken out by this character. Ravi Padmanabhan, although a geek, feels like little more than a psychopath. His indifference to the character Jaison drives the audience throughout the end of the film. The character silently trolls the people who are madly in awe of geniuses without observing them. Actor Vineeth Sreenivasan played this role with full conviction and provided bearable humour. OTT platforms like Jio Cinema and Amazon Prime Video are streaming the movie.
