The rap scene in India has been ablaze for the last few years and underground artists who were struggling to make a living with it seem to be getting more and more recognition as the days go by. Independent artists along with labels and even movies have tried to cash in on the hype and tried to inculcate more of them in their projects.
Raps have been a great way of getting a message across to the audiences and the younger generations seem to be hooked by the vibes that they give out. MX Player has come up with a new series called Red Bull Spotlight that is a search to find India’s next big rapper.
The show is being judged by Divine, Naezy, Emiway Bantai, and DeeMC. All of the 8 contestants will also be mentored by other upcoming artists who have already made quite a name for themselves in the rap scene.
Sofia Ashraf, Naezy, Dopeadelicz, Sez on the Beat, and D’evil are among those who will act as mentors to the performers. A-Gan from Chennai, Loud Silence from Bengaluru, MC Headshot from Kolkata, Supermanikk from Chandigarh, Albela from Noida, Rhyming Man from Bhubaneshwar, The Rushi Gosavi from Goa, and Siyaahi from Ahmedabad will be battling it out in the competition.
Most of the youngsters today who used to listen exclusively to Eminem and other international artists are slowly pulled towards homegrown Indian wrappers like Divine and Emiway and listen to their songs on loop.
MX Player’s Red Bull Spotlight will stream on MX Player on 2nd April.
