Films are often considered to be the melting pot of various cultures. And when directors from diverse cultural backgrounds come together under the roof of a joint creative project, the output turns out to be an undeniable masterpiece. Such is the case with prolific Indian directors – Kabir Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Rima Das, and Onir – and their upcoming opener for the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
The trailer for ‘My Melbourne’, an anthology film showcasing diverse immigrant experiences in Australia’s cultural capital, has been released recently. The film features dialogues in English, Bengali, Hindi, Dari, and Auslan. The poignant teaser explores themes of identity and the psychological human need for belonging.
The beautifully shot trailer is the result of the convergence of four stories proceeding simultaneously. The anthology, an amalgamation of four short stories – Nandini, Jules, Emma, and Setara – portrays human rawness and vulnerability as a means of catharsis.
Moreover, the complex characters seen in the film find themselves different means of expression: cricket, cooking, and more. The uplifting background score that accompanies the vibrant trailer concludes with the message that the journey that the four stories are on is eventually the same.
This message might just transcend the teaser and film alone, and apply to all of our lives too!
Although there are no details about the title streaming in the country, stay tuned to this space for further updates!
