Revered auteur Lijo Jose Pellissery‘s upcoming film “Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam” with megastar Mammootty dropped a very cryptic poster recently. This much awaited collaboration is one of Malayalam Cinema’s most awaited outings of the year. If the poster wasn’t enough, the team dropped a boggling teaser yesterday.
The teaser opens to a bright after-noon where seemingly every adult from the village is asleep. Living upto the title of the film that translates to “After-noon nap”. We are shown both humans and animals falling asleep with the last frame cutting to Mammootty amidst a nap. The teaser left fans confused, while some started making fan-theories much like any Lijo Jose Pellissery film. The teaser was not just cryptic but also so beautiful to look at. Thanks to Theni Eswar’s cinematography. We can ready ourselves for a really mind boggling ride this year.
“Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam” centres around Velan played by Mammootty, who leads a double life: as a cycle mechanic by day and a thief by night. He escaped his hometown in Kerala following a murder. But Velan’s past comes back to hunt his new-found life.
Conceptualised and directed by Lijo Jose, the film’s script is written by S Hareesh. Ramya Pandian and Ashokan also star. This is a first-time collaboration for Lijo Jose Pellissery and Mammootty and a reunion for the star and Ashokan onscreen after 30 years.The last time Mammootty and Ashokan shared screen space was for the 1991 film Amaram.
The film is produced by Mammootty himself under his newly launched production house Mammootty Kampany. Theni Eswar handles the cinematography. There are no details regarding the release of the film so far. We hope there’s clarity on this some-time soon. Stay tuned.
