Apple TV+ has unveiled a new look for its upcoming limited series, Lady in the Lake, featuring Natalie Portman. The seven-episode long series will arrive on the streaming platform on July 19.
Based on Laura Lippman’s 2019 novel, Lady in the Lake takes place in 1960s Baltimore. The series will revolve around Maddie Schwartz (played by Portman), a Jewish housewife who seeks to reinvent her career as an investigative journalist. She begins to solve an unsolved murder case to achieve her goal. However, things get complicated after she clashes with a woman who uses the murder case to support the agenda of the city’s black community. When Maddie becomes fixated on Cleo Sherwood’s (a local bartender) death, a chasm opens that puts everyone around them in danger.
Apart from Portman, the forthcoming series stars Moses Ingram, Y’lan Noel, Brett Gelman, Byron Bowers, Noah Jupe, Josiah Cross, Mikey Madison, and Pruitt Taylor Vince. Alma Har’el serves as the project’s creator, director, and writer. She is also one of the show’s executive producers, along with Portman.
The series also had Lupita Nyong’o back when it received the greenlight in March 2021. However, the actress exited the project in 2022 due to unknown reasons.
